TBR View: Should Leeds consider midfielder released by Championship rivals?
Adam Forshaw’s injury problems have now seen the Leeds United midfielder miss 23 of The Whites’ 30 Championship fixtures this season and cover in the middle of the park is needed – and a recently-released midfielder could be perfect.
Forshaw is said to be back training with the Leeds squad but the former Middlesbrough midfielder is certainly injury prone. It must also be said that in his 52 appearances for the Whites, he has failed to score – and created just two goals.
Mateusz Klich is one of the first names on the team sheet in one of the two central midfield roles in front of Kalvin Phillips, with Stuart Dallas, Tyler Roberts, Jamie Shackleton, Pablo Hernandez and Forshaw all being used next to the Pole.
Leeds could do with a midfielder that can finally slot into that role, or at least provide competition for that position. At the base of the midfield, Leeds also need cover for Phillips – with centre-back Ben White having to deputise of late.

So, should Leeds enter the free agent market and bring Tom Carroll to Elland Road? The former Tottenham Hotspur star was released by Swansea City at the end of the January window, despite playing 10 times for the Welsh club this season.
Carroll, who has played 94 times in the Premier League, can play in either the holding midfield role or in a standard, box-to-box midfield position. He has huge experience for a number of sides, clocking up more than 200 club appearances.
A ball-playing midfielder, Carroll is renowned for his excellent array of passing. Recent injuries have prevented him from getting back into Swansea’s side – but having him as cover for Phillips or competition in the number right role would be ideal.
Landing him on a free would give Leeds another option in the middle of the park, and given his versatility and ball-playing style, he would be perfect for Bielsa’s ethos. Leeds have got to consider the formrer England Under-21 international.
