TBR View: Reported Everton target James Rodriguez will be an upgrade on Gylfi Sigurdsson
Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez may reportedly join Everton this week, which would be a great signing for the Merseyside club and an upgrade in their squad.
claims that the 29-year-old could join the Toffees by Wednesday and he’s expected to undergo a medical ahead of the transfer.
The report explains that the £200,000-a-week star is now unwanted at Spanish giants Madrid
Rodriguez has been unable to force his way back into the plans of Madrid and previously spent two years out on loan at Bayern Munich, so it’s no surprise that he could be on the move this summer.
But the left-footed attacking midfielder is someone that has proven himself on the elite stage before and would be a phenomenal addition at Goodison Park.
The Colombian playmaker has shone at Madrid, Bayern and Porto in the past, and is at his best in a creative number 10 role where he can get on the ball lots and unlock defences.

With Rodriguez looking close to becoming an Everton player, it’ll be interesting to see how he fits into the plans of manager Carlo Ancelotti.
His potential arrival could be bad news for Gylfi Sigurdsson, as it’s likely he could replace him in the XI.
Sigurdsson looked the real deal when he joined Everton from Swansea City back in 2017 for £45million (), but his form has dropped dramatically over the past year and he looks a shadow of the player he was.
The 30-year-old is a creative attacking midfielder that featured in a box-to-box role for much of last season and he really struggled to make an impact, which is why it wouldn’t be a surprise if he’s axed from Ancelotti’s best XI.
Despite the fact Rodriguez is coming off the back of a difficult year at Madrid, it wasn’t long ago that he was considered a world-class talent and if even half of that player returns it’ll be an upgrade on a declining Sigurdsson.
