TBR View: Matty Cash already showing he’s an Aston Villa steal at £16m

Aston Villa could go to the top of the Premier League tonight when they take on Leeds United under the floodlights at Villa Park.

Boss Dean Smith saw his side narrowly avoid relegation back to the Championship on the final day of the 2019/20 campaign.

Clearly, the boss has learnt his lesson though and his business in the summer was far better than it had been a year previous.

His strategy in the transfer market has been highlighted with several promising captures but none that looks more valuable than that of Matty Cash.

A year ago, the Nottingham Forest man had only played a handful of games as a makeshift right-back. Now, he is an integral part of the team with four wins from four games sat on the cusp of going top of the Premier League.

Not only that but have him at right-back in their Premier League Team of the Season so far.

Cash has made nearly four tackles a game on average, almost five clearances and four interceptions – highlighting his undoubted ability.

The 23-year-old looks like he could go all the way to the top and is clearly loving life playing regular Premier League football.

Smith struck gold when he tempted Forest into accepting a bid worth £16 million for a player who looks worth so much more already.

Cash is energetic, hardworking and is capable of getting up and down the pitch for 90 minutes.

The signings of Ollie Watkins, Emi Martinez and Ross Barkley might have grabbed the bigger headlines.

Cash, however, is well on his way to showing Villa fans that he can be one of their most important players this season.
