TBR View: Liverpool can sign reported target Aouar by offering player-plus-cash deal
Liverpool are reportedly rivalling Manchester City over a move to sign Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar this summer, but could Jurgen Klopp fend off Pep Guardiola and other clubs – by offering Lyon a player-plus-cash deal for the wonderkid.
Aouar, 21, has broken into the senior Lyon side to play 133 times already – despite his tender age. Indeed, the 14-time France Under-21 international has had a hand in 16 goals this season from midfield, scoring nine and creating seven.
that midfield maestro Aouar is one of a number of targets for Klopp’s side this summer, along with the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Todd Cantwell, Jadon Sancho, Diego Carlos, Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.
It comes as no surprise that Liverpool are looking to strengthen in the middle of the park, with Adam Lallana set to leave the club in the summer. Gini Wijnaldum’s long-term future at Liverpool is also in doubt, as his contract ends in 2021.

However, Liverpool are not alone in their pursuit of Aouar. Manchester City, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in the French youngster. Lyon value Aouar at £65million.
But Klopp may have a trump card that he can play. That is because Italian outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi reported earlier this month that Lyon are keen on bringing defender Dejan Lovren back to the French club – seven years after he left in 2013.
Tottenham, Arsenal, AC Milan and Lazio all want Lovren, but Lyon are keen to lure him back to France. The Croat’s contract ends in 2021, so surely including him in a deal for Aouar would see Lyon more inclined to agree a deal with Liverpool.
Proposing a swap deal of Lovren and a fee of around £50million could be enough to sign Lyon midfielder Aouar.
