TBR View: Leeds need to beat West Brom and lure Frank Lampard gem to Elland Road

West Bromwich Albion and Leeds United are going hammer and tongues in the Championship to finish in automatic promotion, but Leeds have also got to try and beat them to a player that is currently shining in England’s second tier.

West Brom are one of a number of sides reportedly tracking Charlton Athletic loanee Conor Gallagher. that Swansea, Burnley, Norwich, Rangers and Millwall are all keen on the 19-year-old.

Gallagher, already an England Under-21 international, is expected to remain at Charlton – where he is contracted until the end of the season. The Addicks are desperate to keep the Chelsea gem, who is said to have impressed Frank Lampard.

Indeed, his performances from the middle of the park at The Valley have seen him earn fan favourite reputation. Gallagher has missed just one Championship match this season for the London side, scoring six goals and creating three more.

West Brom feel he could contribute to their push for promotion in the second half of the season, but Leeds arguably need him more with injuries taking their toll on the middle of the park – more than elsewhere.

Adam Forshaw is a long-term absentee, with a hip injury. The problem is likely to require an operation, and there is no return date for the midfielder. Jamie Shackleton has also spent a considerable amount of time out injured.

Pablo Hernandez and Tyler Roberts are also missing through injury, leaving Marcelo Bielsa to play the likes of Stuart Dallas out of position alongside Mateusz Klich. Robbie Gotts was handed his debut in the FA Cup clash against Arsenal.

Leeds need an attacking midfielder – one like Klich. Gallagher would be the perfect addition and The Whites are known to have a good connection with Chelsea, having signed Jamal Blackman and Lewis Baker in the past.

Landing Gallagher would give Leeds all the midfield tools required to finish in the top two.
