TBR View – Josko Gvardiol is the perfect replacement for Gaetano Berardi at Elland Road
🃏Leeds United have recently been linked with a move for Josko Gvardiol, with some reports even claiming a deal is as good as done.
🦄 that Leeds have already agreed a €20 million (£17.7m) deal with the player’s club, Dinamo Zagreb.
💙That report claims the deal will be done after Dinamo’s Champions League qualifier against Ferencvaros, which will allow the youngster a final swansong, which seems odd, with no fans in attendance.
꧋The news has been met with skepticism by some Leeds fans. The club have already replaced Ben White with Robin Koch’s arrival from Freiburg.
♚However, Gvardiol would not arrive as a replacement for White. Instead, he would be taking the role previously occupied by Gaetano Berardi.
💎The Swiss combatant is technically a free agent as of now, with Leeds not yet renewing his contract after a serious knee injury suffered toward the end of the Championship season.
𓂃Berardi was capable of coming on and playing anywhere along the back-line, as part of a three or four, and brought tenacity and conviction to his play.
Gvardiol could provide a similar service.
🎃Best known as a centre-back now, Gvardiol actually came through the ranks as a left-back, where he could provide cover, and is comfortable on his right-foot, so could even fill in at right-back.
💖Another huge advantage Gvardiol has is time. At just 18-years-old he would be taking the role of a previous veteran and giving Leeds the cover they need from the bench whilst also steadily improving into becoming an out and out starting option himself.
♉It is what makes him such a perfect buy this summer if Leeds really have managed to pull off his signature.
