TBR View: Joe Gomez must improve Liverpool form after international break
Liverpool were thrashed 7-2 by Aston Villa before the international break and the defeat highlighted that Joe Gomez needs to seriously improve his form after the restart.
The Reds defender has been badly out of sorts during 2020/21 and boss Jurgen Klopp is facing a headache over his central defender.
Gomez was given a torrid time by Ollie Watkins during the Villa defeat and his current run of form represents a testing time for the 23-year-old.

The man with 11 England caps has played over 100 times for Liverpool, showing on plenty of occasions just how capable he can be.
A return to basics might be ideal for the youngster and right now he might get lucky due to a lack of options for Klopp.
Joel Matip won’t be far away from a return to action after the international break though and Gomez badly needs to rediscover some of his good form.
The defender was signed from Charlton for £3.5 million in 2015 During Liverpool’s title-winning campaign of last season, he was a regular, playing 43 games in all competitions.
Gomez hasn’t become a bad player overnight but with Liverpool a seriously ambitious club he could do with a strong performance or two after the international break.
Competition
Fabinho filled in for Gomez during a 2-0 win over Chelsea earlier in the season and played incredibly well.
If Gomez drops too many more performances akin to that of his against Villa, Klopp might be turning to his makeshift option once more.

Gomez is barely averaging one tackle a game, whilst he is making at least two fouls on average per 90 minutes played.
Klopp is typically loyal to his players but his central defender must be causing him a headache and not for the right reasons.
The run of games after the international break could prove crucial for Gomez when it comes to proving he is the man to partner Virgil van Dijk during the current campaign.
