TBR View: If Tottenham sign Leeds-linked Robin Koch, Juan Foyth move is a no-brainer
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in luring German defender Robin Koch to north London this summer as he continues to shine with Bundesliga side Freiburg – and that has got to prompt Leeds into finally signing a defender of their own.
Jose Mourinho is expected to look at strengthening the majority of positions in his squad this summer and centre-back is no exception, given Jan Vertonghen is expected to leave the club. The Belgian’s contract expires in June.
Spurs are looking to combat that by luring Germany international Koch to the Premier League this summer, with the 23-year-old missing just one Bundesliga outing all season for the impressive Freiburg.
Koch has been the defensive colossus that has spearheaded Freiburg’s excellent 2019-20 campaign, which sees them sit as high as eighth. Spurs are keen, as are Dortmund and Napoli, with Freiburg rating the star at £18.5million.

The signing of Koch will surely spell the end of Juan Foyth’s time at Spurs, though. The Argentina international has failed to make a Premier League squad for Spurs in their last nine top-tier outings – after being hauled off at half-time against Norwich.
that Leeds were interested in signing 22-year-old Foyth, who Spurs bought in the summer of 2017 from Argentine side Estudiantes for a fee of £9million
It comes as little surprise. Foyth is a ball-playing defender and shares the same nationality with Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa. If Koch – who has been scouted by Leeds () – joins Tottenham, then surely it would make Foyth surplus to requirements.
Even without Koch, Foyth has little future at Spurs – especially following the breakthrough of Japhet Tanganga and Eric Dier reverting to central defence. Signing Koch would surely see Leeds’ chances of signing Foyth dramatically increase.
