TBR View: If Liverpool are desperate to sign defender, they may have to offer swap deal
Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni this summer with the young Italian ace shining under Antonio Conte – but they may have to offer a swap deal to net the youngster.
Bastoni, 21, has jumped into the senior Inter side this season under Conte – despite the defender being on loan at Parma and Atalanta of late. He has played 17 times for a side that also boast Diego Godin, Milan Skriniar and Stefan de Vrij.
Such form has seen that Liverpool are keen to lure Bastoni to Anfield, but may have to pay a whole lot more than than £27million Inter paid Atalanta for the Italy Under-21 international.
Inter are more than capable of pricing Liverpool out of a move for Bastoni, given his contract expires until the summer of 2023. Liverpool and Michael Edwards are smart in the market, and spending an enormous amount on Bastoni would be risky.

But, Liverpool could sign Bastoni without spending much money. That is because that Inter Milan are interested in luring midfielder Gini Wijnaldum to the Nerrazzuri to the Serie A giants this summer.
Wijnaldum, 29, has a contract until the summer of 2021 at Liverpool and his long-term future at Anfield is in doubt. The Netherlands international is just another of a number of Premier League players to be linked with Inter.
Conte has signed the likes of Christian Eriksen, Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez, Ashley Young and Victor Moses this season – and Wijnaldum, another proven Premier League star, could be the next to join Inter.
So, if Liverpool are desperate to sign Bastoni but are unwilling to pay what is likely to be a huge price tag, including Wijnaldum would surely be a move that would suit all parties involved.
