TBR View: If Hakan Calhanoglu is available Arsenal should pounce

Arsenal have endured a pretty underwhelming first half of the campaign and Mikel Arteta’s remit is to revive the club’s fortunes.

The January transfer window can’t come soon enough for the new boss. Arteta will surely hope to do some wheeling and dealing to try and improve his squad.

One man who could prove a quality piece of transfer business is AC Milan winger Hakan Calhanoglu.

The man with 47 caps for Turkey is subject to interest from Leicester City,

If the winger is available, however, he could do a job for Arsenal.

Nicolas Pepe arrived from Lille in the summer and hasn’t really lived up to his billing just yet. Reiss Nelson is another player who has been tried on the wing this season, with limited success.

That could see Arteta enter the market for another wide option and Calhanoglu might be ideal.

The player hasn’t really scaled the heights of expectation at the San Siro, although he was impressive during his time at Bayer Leverkusen.

In 115 games he scored 28 goals and registered 29 assists before earning a move to Italy.

Given that things haven’t really worked out in Serie A he would be desperate to prove a point and that could bode well.

AC Milan are thought to want for the Turkey international and he will be desperate to play his way into form ahead of Euro 2020.

Quality

Arsenal are in desperate need of a lift and signing a player like Calanoglu could help ignite the club’s season considerably.

The winger is quick, determined and boasts an array of skill that should delight Arsenal supporters.

If Leicester are interested in his services then Arsenal should certainly be looking to declare their interest too.
