TBR View: Everton want Dwight McNeil and Spurs simply have to step back into the fold

Everton are reportedly keen on signing Dwight McNeil this summer, after the Burnley man enjoyed another impressive season at Turf Moor.

The has said that McNeil is firmly on the radar for Everton, with a bid of at least £25m said to be needed.

McNeil, 21, is seen as one of the top young talents outside the usual top six in the Premier League. His excellent left foot, as well as his ability to play multiple positions, has caught plenty of attention.

Surely, then, with Nuno Santo now in charge and the race for McNeil seemingly back on, Tottenham have to get back into the fold?

Don’t miss out

Young English players like McNeil don’t come along all that often. His ability is not in question, and he’s already played over 100 games for Burnley.

Sometimes, a player like this just has to be signed. Of course, Everton and Spurs are on very similar trajectories. Both are trying to reel the top four in, and both are set for busy summers with new managers.

But for Spurs, you just feel McNeil fits in so well. He has great energy, a great left foot, and with Santo potentially set to play 3-4-3 like he did at Wolves, McNeil brings excellent versatility to the table.

He’s capable of playing on the left of the front three. But if needed, he’d also be more than sound at left wing-back if needed.

If those £25m reports are seen to be correct, then Spurs have to get their heads back in the race for the Burnley man.
