TBR View: Could Southampton outcast scupper reported Arsenal plans to sell defender?
Arsenal have reportedly offered defender Shkodran Mustafi to Italian side Lazio as they look to bring in some cash to bring in the likes of Houssem Aouar or Thomas Partey – but a Southampton outcast could scupper those plans.
that Arsenal have offered Lazio the chance to sign the Germany World Cup winner, and are ready to accept offers in the region of £11million. Lazio are keen on a move for the former Valencia centre-back.
Despite raking in £20million for goalkeeper Emi Martinez from Aston Villa, Arsenal still need to cash in on some of their fringe players in order to spend big on the likes of Partey or Aouar. The duo have been strongly linked with Arsenal this summer.
But Southampton could throw a spanner in Arsenal’s plans in raising funds for Aouar and Partey, by sanctioning the exit of Wesley Hoedt to Lazio – a move which would see the Netherlands international return to the Serie A side.

Southampton signed Hoedt from Lazio in the summer of 2017, but Lazio have ‘spoke recently’ with the player and that Simone Inzaghi’s side can land the defender for just £7.5million.
Hoedt has now future at Southampton, after going out on loan for the second half of his three-year stay on the south coast. He joined Celta Vigo during the second half of the 2018-19 season, and then Club Brugge in 2019-20.
Now, Lazio could look to bring Hoedt back to Lazio with Inzaghi a fan. The chances of Lazio signing both defenders is unlikely, meaning the Saints could hand Arsenal a blow in their bid to cash in on defender Mustafi.
