TBR View – Aston Villa should target Liverpool trickster Harry Wilson

Harry Wilson is set to be one of 10 first-team players Liverpool try to offload this summer and that should provide music to the ears of Aston Villa.

Boss Dean Smith led his team to Premier League survival on the final day of 2019/20 and he will want to ensure a more comfortable campaign next time around.

After an assault on the European market last summer, Villa will probably change tact this time around and go for the young, British strategy instead.

Matty Cash has already arrived from Nottingham Forest and more players are set to arrive at Villa Park before they kick off their campaign.

Wilson spent last season on loan at Bournemouth and didn’t look out of place despite the Cherries being relegated from the top-flight.

The 23-year-old fired seven goals in Eddie Howe’s team and managed to get 31 Premier League games under his belt.

It had been anticipated that Wilson was valued at £20 million but now claim he could be allowed to leave for a smaller price.

With that in mind, Villa would be wise to pounce on a player who could thrive and one who could have a really big future in the game.

Wilson is typically a right-winger but there’s no reason why Smith couldn’t utilise him on the left – allowing him a license to cut inside and roam around in the final third.

He is quick, skilful and his direct approach would be welcomed in Smith’s style of play.

Given his tender years, the Wales international could still improve and his signing at less than £20 million looks like a no-brainer.

Villa could certainly welcome another winger or two, with creativity a real problem for the Midlanders last season.

Wilson’s days at Anfield look to be numbered and Villa could pull off a really smart capture by landing the Liverpool man.
