TalkSPORT pundit now shares who he thinks will finish in the top four… Tottenham or Aston Villa

TalkSPORT pundit Tony Cascarino has backed Aston Villa to finish in the top four over Tottenham Hotspur.

Speaking on , Cascarino was asked for his early top four predictions based on the beginning of the campaign.

Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs side currently make up the top four and sit one point ahead of Unai Emery’s men.

Tottenham were flying high at the top of the table before a disastrous week saw them lose consecutive games and almost half of their starting XI to injuries and suspensions.

As for Aston Villa, they picked up a 3-1 win over Fulham last time out and bounced back from the disappointing defeat at Nottingham Forest.

And Tony Cascarino believes Villa will pip Spurs to a top-four finish.

Cascarino backs Villa to finish in top four over Spurs

Speaking on The Game, Cascarino was asked if he believes the current top four of Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs will remain the same come May.

“No,” the pundit responded. “I think Villa will [finish in the top four]. They’re a side that have got so much even though they’ve had days where I think really?

“Seeing them at Forest last week was really bizarre because Forest just ran them up and caused Villa so many problems.

“But I do believe that home record and a slight improvement on their away performances, I think Villa will be up there.

“Instead of Tottenham. I’d definitely go with Tottenham being the ones to miss out. There’s a lot to be excited about [for Villa].”

It’s still early days in terms of top-four hopes for either side but it’s fair to say that both have performed above expectations so far.

Not many would have backed Villa to be just three points off top spot after 12 games played.

As for Tottenham, many expected them to endure a rocky start under Postecoglou but it’s been quite the opposite so far.

Of course, the Aussie boss now faces a difficult task as he bids to navigate his side through a spell without key players like Micky van de Ven and James Maddison.

But Spurs will welcome back both Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie over the next few weeks.

Villa are set to face Spurs in North London after the international break and that should give us a good indication of where both teams are at.
