Takumi Minamino says £20m player did things he’d ‘never seen before’ in Liverpool training

Takumi Minamino has praised four Liverpool players, including Thiago Alcantara, for their work on the training ground.

Minamino left Anfield to join Monaco in , and is preparing to go to the World Cup with Japan, who have Spain, Germany and Costa Rica in their group.

He will not come up against Thiago in Qatar, with the midfielder having been of his country’s squad for the tournament.

Minamino on Thiago

“Salah and Mane were the two players who trained more than anyone,” he said.

“Thiago got lots of injuries but he was really professional, trying to avoid them by doing exercises I’ve never seen before.

“Milner was a real veteran but was fresher than anyone and led with his voice in training.”

There have been question marks over Thiago’s fitness and ability to cope with the physical nature of English football since he joined Liverpool.

At his very peak, he can toy with Premier League defences, and arguably his best Reds display came in the 4-0 win over Manchester United last season.

The man has struggled at times for fitness of this term, although he has been back in contention recently and will hope to use the World Cup break to refresh and recover.
