‘Take their medicine’: Rangers guard of honour verdict delivered by former Celtic man
We’re still well over a week away from the season’s third meeting of Celtic and Rangers, but it’s already clear what the main talking point is going to be until kick-off.
Celtic’s failure to beat Dundee United handed Rangers the title, but robbed them of the opportunity to be crowned champions at the home of their greatest rivals.
What it did provide, however, was the opportunity to be welcomed on to the pitch at Celtic Park with a guard of honour.
There has been no clarity yet as to whether Celtic will perform the gesture and, somewhat predictably, much debate surrounds the subject.

Despite having played for Celtic, Ross County manager John Hughes believes his former club would be wrong to deny Rangers their moment and need to suck it up.
As quoted by , the Staggies boss praised Rangers for the quiet manner in which they’ve gone about their business this season, and contrasted it with the “noise” that has constantly emanated from the green-and-white half of the city.
He said: “Rangers have been outstanding and there should be a guard of honour, it’s an unwritten rule,” he said.
“The next team has to take their medicine, take it on the chin.
“Rangers have been outstanding, there has been no noise coming out of there and too much coming out of Celtic.

“Not signing a goalkeeper, Leigh Griffiths and all that – too much noise.
“Now the challenge for them is to get it back.
“But sometimes in sport you have to just tip your hat, say they have raised the bar and focus on going out to beat them.”
Hughes played a significant role in Celtic’s downfall this season, with his side’s 1-0 win against them in February proving to be Neil Lennon’s last game in charge before resigning.
