Swindon Town fans rave about performance of Arsenal loanee Matt Smith
Arsenal youngster Matt Smith completed another 90 minutes on Tuesday night for Swindon Town – and some fans of the English Football League club hailed him for his performance.
The 20-year-old is a highly-rated talent that left the Emirates Stadium in the summer transfer window to join League One club Swindon on a season-long loan, as he searches for some first-team experience.
He’s played every single minute of their opening seven league games, including on Tuesday in the 2-1 away defeat against Northampton Town.

Smith has made a strong start to life in the third-tier by quickly becoming an ever-present for Swindon, but his new club do sit 19th in the table with just two wins from their opening seven league games.
He is a versatile central midfielder that has been loaned out by Premier League giants Arsenal for the first time in his career after impressing at youth level and aged 20 he needs a breakout year to try break into Mikel Arteta’s squad in the future at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners loanee missed a goalscoring opportunity during the first-half against Northampton, but was one of his side’s best attacking threats and he’s also got the ability to slot into a more defensive role in front of the back four if needed.
Here are some Swindon fans discussing Smith’s latest display:

Feel sorry for how good Matt Smith is, amongst players who are well below his level.

I’m 3.5 games into being able to watch. Stuff I’ve learnt
– we lack pace at the back
– off the ball we are appalling
– Matt Smith is an expectional player
– Kovar is woefully out of his depth (sorry lad)
– don’t have a budget so we will have to live with these things 🤷♂️— Neil Hussey (@hussla4)
Matt Smith showing up every town player out there.
