Swansea boss Steve Cooper confirms his side would like to sign Liverpool forward Rhian Brewster
Swansea City manager Steve Cooper has shared that his side would be in the running to try sign Liverpool’s Rhian Brewster if he becomes available, but doesn’t believe that’s the case at present.
The 20-year-old is a bright prospect at Anfield to come out of the Reds academy and he’s had just a brief taste of first-team action so far with them by making four appearances.
But he linked up with Championship side Swansea City on loan for the second half of last season, where he made an emphatic impact by scoring 11 goals in 22 games across all competitions.
has claimed that Premier League clubs Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Brighton, Fulham and Crystal Palace are all interested in trying to sign the Liverpool youngster on loan this season.
Swansea boss Cooper has admitted he’s a big fan of Brewster and expects his team would try re-sign him if given the chance, but claims there has bene no indication that Liverpool would let him go.
“He’s a Liverpool player and involved with them. We wish him well. He had a brilliant time here and everyone thought the world of him,” Cooper said Thursday, as quoted by
“I don’t think I’ve said too much about him on the record. I think we need some strikers – there is no doubt about that – and I’d like another centre-back as well.
“We’re hopeful we can still do that. If Rhian was available then of course we’d be in the mix but I don’t think that’s the case at the moment.”
TBR’s View:
It’s a no-brainer that Swansea would try bring Brewster back to the Liberty Stadium if they had the chance, as he looked a real force in the Championship with his pace, composure and movement in the box.
But for Liverpool they should look to keep him around Jurgen Klopp’s first-team squad, as the talented Englishman looks ready to get a crack in the Premier League with some minutes from the bench.
It’s difficult for any member of the squad trying to break into a brilliant Liverpool XI, but Brewster is one for the future that could suit Roberto Firmino’s role.
