Chris Sutton now says there’s real doubt over whether 24-year-old will make it at Arsenal
Chris Sutton has expressed his concern for Eddie Nketiah after watching the striker lead the line for Arsenal in their defeat to Fulham on Sunday.
Mikel Arteta sprung a bit of a surprise heading into the game at Craven Cottage. The Arsenal boss decided to leave Gabriel Jesus on the bench and hand Eddie Nketiah an opportunity to show what he can do.
Jesus has come in for criticism for how lethal he is in front of goal. And it is still the case that Nketiah has found the back of the net more often than the Brazilian in the Premier League this season.
Chris Sutton fears for Eddie Nketiah at Arsenal
However, Nketiah was unable to really help Arsenal on Sunday. And while he was not the only player to really struggle in the loss, it does feel that the 24-year-old passed up a brilliant opportunity.

Nketiah has now only scored in one league game since the end of August. And he has not found the back of the net in the top-flight in his last nine appearances.
He did score a superb goal in the Champions League draw with PSV Eindhoven. And he has scored some important goals for the Gunners. But speaking on , Chris Sutton admitted that he is worried for Nketiah now.
“Nketiah, you’ve got to wonder if it’s ever going to happen for him at Arsenal,” he said. “I think it’s fair to say he didn’t have that many opportunities against Fulham, if any. They have to find a way of creating opportunities for him, because he can finish.”
Gunners need a more prolific frontline striker – and that may have implications for Englishman
Nketiah is a decent backup option to have. But when Arsenal’s main striker has only scored three goals in the Premier League, Nketiah’s contribution also comes under scrutiny.
It is hard to not get a little carried away after the two losses. But it really does feel as though Arsenal’s title hopes will evaporate if they do not sign another striker in January.
And if they do that, there will surely be questions asked about what the future holds for Nketiah. Unfortunately, he just does not appear to be at the level to fire Arsenal to the title.
