‘Superb’: Alasdair Gold wowed by Spurs player’s ‘9/10’ display despite ‘sloppy moments’ in first half

Tottenham Hotspur came from behind to record a superb 6-2 victory over Leicester City in north London on Saturday.

Spurs fell behind after just six minutes in the Premier League encounter.

Youri Tielemans converted from the spot in a retaken penalty after Hugo Lloris had moved just off his line beforehand.

But just two minutes later, Harry Kane rose high to head home following a corner.

Then, in the 22nd minute, Eric Dier became the latest to take advantage of Leicester’s bad defending from set pieces.

The Tottenham defender raced to the near post and glanced home Ivan Perisic’s delivery to make it 2-1.

Spurs didn’t manage to hold onto their lead by half time though, with James Maddison’s first-time finish making it all square.

After the break, however, Tottenham raced back in front and never looked back.

Rodrigo Bentancur pushed out from midfield to dispossess Wilfred Ndidi and net his first club goal on 47 minutes.

Then, Son Heung-min came on as a second-half substitute and ended his goal drought in style.

Son’s first came on 73 minutes as he drove forward after Leicester gave the ball away and rifled into the top corner.

Six minutes from time, the 30-year-old lashed a left-footed effort home – again, into the top corner.

And in the 87th minute, Son got his third, sliding the ball under Danny Ward, though he had to wait for a VAR check.

‘Renewed vigour’

While Son rightly got most of the plaudits, there were several standout performances from Tottenham players.

Football.london’s Alasdair Gold gave Bentancur the second-highest score of the night, after Son’s perfect 10.

The Uruguay international earned himself a 9 out of 10.

‘Plenty of sloppy moments in the first half,’ Gold wrote on .

‘But early in the second period won the ball back in midfield from Wilfred Ndidi, ran all the way through and stroked home his first goal for the club.

‘Then set up Son for his second goal to complete a superb second half.’

also rated Bentancur highly, giving him an 8 out of 10.

‘Embodied the added intensity Spurs played with after the break, playing with a renewed vigour after a sloppy first half,’ they wrote.
