Sunderland’s £400k January target Freddie Ladapo could miss chance to impress Jack Ross

After his late January move to Sunderland fell through, Plymouth Argyle striker Freddie Ladapo would have looked ahead to this weekend’s fixture with anticipation.

But Ladapo may be dealt a cruel blow as injury threatens to rule him out of the contest.

Sunderland’s quest for a striker to replace Josh Maja led them to various targets and Ladapo was one of the names mentioned.

, Sunderland saw a deadline day bid of £400,000 knocked back by Plymouth, who insisted their star man was not for sale.

The former Crystal Palace starlet has scored 15 goals in all competitions this season, making him one of the deadliest strikers in the third tier.

His goals have been a major help in the Pilgrims’ rise away from the relegation zone and they could not afford to lose him.

But this weekend, Plymouth travel to The Stadium of Light and might be without their star player.

, Ladapo is an injury doubt after missing training all week with a thigh complaint.

This will be a shame for the 26-year-old, who would have been relishing this fixture to show Jack Ross exactly what he can do.

There could be a future Sunderland move on the cards for him but his chance to impress Sunderland firsthand might be taken away.

But this is good news for Sunderland in the short-term as Ladapo’s goal threat would have worried Ross ahead of this fixture.
