Report: Sunderland keen to sign Celtic outcast Scott Sinclair

Sunderland have declared their interest in signing Celtic outcast Scott Sinclair before the transfer window slams shut later today,

Sinclair has fallen down the pecking order at Celtic Park and could leave if a deal can be struck with a potential suitor.

The 30-year-old is on £30,000-a-week for the Scottish champions and that could make things somewhat problematic for Sunderland.

Sinclair would bolster the Black Cats in their quest for promotion and he would be seen as a real coup for a club in the third tier of English football.

The flying winger has been a loyal servant to the Hoops. He has played 164 games, scoring 61 goals and registering 34 assists. He boasts experience in England playing for Swansea, Reading, Manchester City, West Brom, QPR, Chelsea and Aston Villa.

Jack Ross will be keen to lift spirits at the Stadium of Light. He saw his team thrashed 3-0 by Peterborough United on Saturday.

TBR Verdict – Sinclair could destroy League One if he arrives at Sunderland

The signing of a proven player such as Sinclair would really make the rest of League One stand up and take notice of Sunderland.

After the disappointment of last year’s play-off final defeat, it has been vital that Ross kicks on and proves to supporters they can achieve promotion this season.

The summer signings thus far haven’t really whet the appetite but Sinclair could be about to change that.

He would complement a solid squad assembled by Ross and he would add the x-factor required to lift Sunderland towards promotion.

The 30-year-old has perhaps been harshly treated by Celtic. He has been tossed aside by Neil Lennon who has deemed him surplus to requirements.

Sinclair would be desperate to prove that Celtic were wrong to let him go and he could prove a shrewd addition for Sunderland.
