Sunderland must swoop as Marcus Maddison is now a free agent – TBR View

Sunderland have long been linked with a potential move for Peterborough United midfield maestro Marcus Maddison and it now seems they might have the perfect chance.

The self-confessed Sunderland fan has been linked with a move to the Stadium of Light on numerous occasions in the past.

Now, he is a free agent and Sunderland would be right to reignite their previous interest.

The Posh confirmed earlier this month that Maddison has left London Road after a loan spell and prospective move to Hull City fell apart.

Maddison is now available for nothing, which might be exactly the situation Sunderland would have wanted.

last year, Sunderland were unwilling to pay the £2.5 million asking price Peterborough slapped on the midfielder last summer. They claimed the Black Cats felt it was a better option financially to wait and enter the battle for the free agent in 12 months time.

When the January loan to Hull was confirmed, it seemed the ship had sailed on Sunderland getting their man.

However, the ship is firmly back in the harbour and Sunderland will surely be looking to make another move for a player who is proven at League One level.

He could be a key figure in finally getting Sunderland out of League One.
