Stephen Elliott would prefer Sunderland to sign Liam Boyce over Kyle Lafferty
Ex-Sunderland striker Stephen Elliott has claimed that he would rather the Black Cats sign Liam Boyce than Kyle Lafferty.
The former Republic of Ireland international made the claim on Twitter after reported Lafferty being in talks with the League One outfit.
Elliott did say that he’d understand why the 32-year-old was signed, citing his physical presence as a factor.
He does, however, concede that he’d rather the club signed Boyce from Burton Albion.
The Northern Irishman has 13 goals in 31 appearances for the Brewers this season and is valued at £250,000 by his current club
Eliott took to Twitter to give his thoughts on Phil Parkinson’s search for some more firepower:
If he came in I’d understand it. He wouldn’t be the worse option out there. Not exactly young but big & awkward to play against for CBs & may suit playing in PP team. Personally I would prefer Liam Boyce if 1 or other but K L free so wouldn’t be surprise to see him come in

Sunderland are currently ninth in the League One table and face a fight for a play-off place.
It’s fair to say they have suffered a hangover from last season’s last-gasp defeat to Charlton in the League One play-off final.
Parkinson is now settling into the role, however. His team are currently a point off a top-six spot having played a game less than Peterborough United.
If Lafferty is available on a free, Sunderland might choose to pursue both strikers.
Boyce would cost a small fee but in tandem with the ex-Rangers star, they could provide a serious number of goals.
One thing is for certain, however…Parkinson must get the January transfer window right if he is to lead Sunderland back into the Championship this season.
