Sunderland have now done something no other club has in the history of English football
Sunderland came from behind to beat Sheffield United in the Championship play-off final at Wembley on Saturday.
Tommy Watson – who Brighton beat Tottenham to sign – scored a sumptuous curled effort in the 95th minute to drag the Black Cats up to the Premier League with him, after Eliezer Mayenda had equalised in the 76th minute.

It marked a special day for Sunderland and Regis Le Bris, who takes the Wearsiders back to the Premier League after four years in League One and four seasons in the Championship – making English Football League (EFL) history in doing so.
Sunderland become the first side to lose five consecutive games heading into the play-offs but still win it
Leading up to the play-offs, Sunderland were in woeful form.
The Black Cats suffered five straight defeats, losing to Swansea, Bristol City, Blackburn, Oxford and QPR.
However, after defeating Sheffield United, Sunderland have made history in the EFL by becoming the first club to lose five games in a row before the play-offs, but yet, still earn promotion via this route.
Andy Hinchcliffe even paid tribute to the achievement while speaking on Sky Sports, saying: “For Sunderland, it was written in the stars. The two legs against Coventry, on the back foot, found a way. In this game they were second best, but they somehow find a way.
“Remember Sunderland came into the play-offs on five straight defeats. No team in EFL history has ever done that. Yet they recovered.”
Regis Le Bris could now be able to keep Jobe Bellingham and Chris Rigg away from Arsenal and Manchester United
TBR Football understand Arsenal and Manchester United scouted Chris Rigg and Jobe Bellingham during the January transfer window, with the Premier League giants both huge admirers of the English duo.

Another season in the Championship could have led Sunderland to sell one of the two – if not both – due to financial reasons and perhaps their desire to play at a level above, although the Black Cats have now boosted their chances of keeping their best talent at the Stadium of Light after joining the Gunners and the Red Devils in the Premier League.
