Some Sunderland fans have reacted to the news Denver Hume has signed a new contract.
The club have revealed on their website the ace has put pen to paper on a two-year deal with an option of a further year.
The 23-year-old’s contract originally expired at the end of last season. He was in talks over a new deal, but conversations went on far longer than expected.
Hume has been with the Wearside outfit since the age of eight, making his way through the ranks to the senior team.
He has made 78 appearances for Sunderland’s first-team and has now extended his stay at the Stadium of Light.
The full-back is currently out with a hamstring injury he picked up in the play-offs last season.

Hume contract finally gives Sunderland clarity at left-back
This season has started fairly well for Sunderland, who sit at the top of the League One table.
However, the one area of uncertainty has been at left-back, where 19-year-old Dennis Cirkin has been filling the role.
Going through an entire season with just one left-sided player would have been madness from Lee Johnson’s men.
In that regard, a new contract for Hume is welcome news. His experience and ability can help create healthy competition for the starting place.
At 19, there will be times Cirkin will need a rest, hence why re-signing Hume is a smart decision.
Here is how some Sunderland fans reacted to the news…
Ideal. Good cover considering he was our starting left back (when fit) and now he has so to raise him game considerably to even be in with a chance to start, which is progress for the team as a whole whichever way you look at it.

Young, has potential, glad he's signed up.
Delighted. Been at the club all his life and means we’re well covered at left back!

Excellent to get some cover at left back so we can keep Neil in midfield where he should be if Cirkin is unavailable

Delighted for him. Now he has to earn a place in that defence. Good luck Denver!

At the end of the day, it’s great news, let’s get behind him and see him now develop into a top player 👍👍👏👏👏
