Stuttgart sporting director admits Nicolas Gonzalez interest amid Leeds United links

The sporting director of German side VfB Stuttgart has admitted there is increasing interest in the services of the club’s talented Argentine forward Nicolas Gonzalez, amid links with Leeds United.

first reported that Leeds might be keen on Gonzalez and a host of other Marcelo Bielsa compatriots earlier this month. suggesting Leeds could battle the likes of Napoli, Atalanta, and Lazio for the Albiceleste international, who is being valued at €20 million (£18m).

Now, Stuttgart transfer chief Sven Mislintat, the former director of football at Arsenal, has confirmed to the press in Germany that teams are circling the German side’s star player, but that nothing concrete was currently in the works.

“I see serious interest coming from both Italy and England, as well as from a club in Germany,” the . “But there has not yet been a specific request.”

It would be no surprise if Leeds were indeed one of the teams interested in the player.

Leeds need to improve their attacking options and Gonzalez scored 15 goals in 29 games as Stuttgart won promotion back to the Bundesliga last season.

Capable of playing as a central striker or from out wide, Gonzalez would bring flexibility as well as a genuine alternative to Patrick Bamford in attack if Leeds were indeed ready to make a move.

However, plenty of clubs are interested in the player and it will be a tough task for Leeds to win the race.

But fans will no doubt hope a deal can get done for this talented attacking option.
