Stuart McCall says Rangers have a truly ‘excellent’ player in their ranks, proved his critics wrong
Glasgow Rangers legend Stuart McCall has waxed lyrical about Ibrox veteran Steven Davis following his “excellent” displays for Steven Gerrard’s side.
The 36-year-old’s place in the Rangers history books has been cemented thanks to his incredible service for the Ibrox club, and he’s showing no signs of stopping either.
Davis has enjoyed two fruitful stints at Rangers, clocking up over 300 competitive senior appearances in Light Blue.

In 2019, with Rangers back in the Scottish Premiership, he rejoined the Ibrox side – first on loan, before signing permanently.
This season, Davis has made 46 appearances for the Light Blues in all competitions, helping Steven Gerrard’s side to title number 55.
McCall is pleased not only with how the Northern Irishman has fared at Rangers but also how he proved his critics wrong following a slow start to his second stint.
“When Steven Davis went in during a January window with Jermain Defoe, I was so delighted both of them joined,” he told the .
“They didn’t hit the ground running, especially Steven. He hadn’t played a lot of games down south and it took him a while.
“There were questions about whether he was the same player that had been at Rangers previously.
“But, thankfully, we’ve seen that he is and you can’t get enough good professionals. Football clubs are only as good as your senior professionals.
“I thought in the last Celtic game Steven would have a big task.
“Not just in terms of getting it started, but looking after Celtic’s most dangerous player at the time who in my opinion was David Turnbull, who was at No.10.
“He’s a fantastic role model, a great professional and I think his performances this season have been excellent.”

TBR View:
There can’t really be much added to what Davis’ peers have said about him – he is a superb player and professional, and Rangers are lucky to have him.
And given he has penned a year’s extension, Bears will be able to see him work his magic for another season, and hopefully lead the club to title number 56 and other trophies.
