‘Struggling’… Mikel Arteta says £45m Arsenal player was playing with an injury last night

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Gabriel Jesus has been struggling with an injury over the last few days.

The Gunners picked up a well-deserved win over Nottingham Forest last night. They were dominant for most of the game, and Jesus was the star of the show.

Mikel Arteta says Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus played with an injury

Gabriel Jesus has divided opinion at Arsenal since his £45 million () from Manchester City 18 months ago.

The Brazilian is a tremendous footballer. His ability on the ball combined with his movement, skill and work rate make him a dream player for any manager.

However, his end product has been questioned time and again, which has led to many urging Mikel Arteta to sign a new striker.

The Arsenal boss, however, has kept his faith in Jesus, and the striker delivered last night by scoring a goal and providing an assist.

It was a brilliant performance from the Brazil international, and what makes it all the more impressive is the fact that he was injured going into the game.

Arteta told last night: “We really need him at his best. I had a great feeling before the game.

“I told him, because he had some fluid on the knee and he was struggling. He was kicking every physio out there two days ago.

“He was saying I want to be on that pitch and he pushed everybody to be there and when someone has that attitude and desire in this moment, something good is going to happen because he has the ability and that quality.

“He was magnificent today, I think.”

Arsenal need Jesus to fire

If Gabriel Jesus can somehow become a prolific goalscorer, he would be a complete striker.

The Brazilian has everything in his game. He creates chaos every time he’s in and around the box, while his dribbling and movement are absolutely fantastic as well.

Arsenal are aiming to win the Premier League and Champions League this season. To do that, they need Jesus to deliver – just like he did last night.

Arsenal take on Liverpool next, and a win could make a huge difference in the Premier League title race. All eyes will be on Jesus to convert his chances up front.
