Struggling for minutes at Oxford, Luke Garbutt’s Everton career is surely over
Everton left back Luke Garbutt was once considered one to watch at Goodison Park, making his Premier League debut in April 2014 as a 20-year-old.
Now on loan at League One side Oxford United, the defender is struggling for form and game time, surely spelling the end of Garbutt’s Everton career.
Garbutt signed a five-year deal with the club in 2015, yet endured a poor loan spell at Championship side Fulham during the 15/16 campaign. While at Craven Cottage, Garbutt was shaky in defence and offered little in attack, prompting the Whites to end their interest in the defender after his loan deal.
Garbutt was then shipped out to Wigan Athletic for a half season loan where he made just eight appearances, before joining Oxford this August.

The 25-year-old’s fall from grace is exemplified by his involvement in the third division club’s poor start to the season. In all eight league matches he has played in this season, Oxford have lost seven and drawn one.
Dropped to the bench after an October defeat to Luton Town, Garbutt has not played a minute in League One in a month and a half.
The decline of the once-promising Evertonian talent is sad to see, and with Luke Garbutt unable to crack the first-team squad at Oxford United, it seems clear his Goodison Park hopes have been extinguished.
