‘Stood up superbly’… Media left seriously impressed with 18-year-old Tottenham loanee yesterday

Tottenham Hotspur youngster Ashley Phillips continues to impress for Plymouth Argyle this season.

The 18-year-old made the switch to Plymouth last month and has instantly nailed down his place as a starter in Ian Foster’s side.

After struggling for minutes under Ange Postecoglou, the youngster has already racked up eight appearances for the Pilgrims.

The Tottenham defender’s latest display for Plymouth came in a 2-0 defeat at home to Leeds United on Saturday afternoon.

And despite being on the wrong end of the result, Ashley Phillips earned positive reviews from the media.

handed Phillips a seven out of 10 rating and claimed the Spurs talent stood up to the challenge of facing Leeds’ most dangerous attackers.

“Moved into the centre of the back three after his previous seven Argyle appearances were all on the right side,” the outlet wrote.

“The 18-year-old stood up superbly to the test of dealing with Leeds’s Joel Piroe and Georginio Rutter, matching them for physicality and determination.”

Phillips has already put in a number of impressive displays for Plymouth this term.He earned rave reviews for his display in the FA Cup against Leeds earlier this month.

There is plenty of excitement at Spurs when it comes to Phillips’ potential after the club snapped the defender up from Blackburn Rovers last summer.

The loan move to Plymouth appears to be working out brilliantly for Phillips and Tottenham.

He’s racking up valuable first-team experience in a competitive league and it would appear that he is catching the eye in the Championship.

Phillips will undoubtedly be hopeful of forcing his way into Postecoglou’s plans ahead of next season and if he continues to impress at Plymouth, he may well emerge as an option for the Aussie next term.
