Steven Gerrard’s comment on Kemar Roofe’s Instagram will delight Leeds supporters

Gary MacAllister and Kemar Roofe have played important parts in Rangers finally ending the club’s 10-year wait for a Scottish Premiership title, beating Celtic in their pursuit of 10 in a row – and Steven Gerrard’s Instagram activity will delight Leeds fans.

Roofe, 28, joined Rangers last summer from Belgian side Anderlecht. He only managed 16 games for Anderlecht following his move from Leeds in 2018. The striker has since scored 12 goals in 26 games for Rangers, in all competitions.

The ex-Leeds man – who played 122 times for the Yorkshire club – has helped Rangers win the title, and reach the last 16 of the Europa League, scoring one of the goals of the tournament with an effort from inside his own half against Standard Liege.

MacAllister, meanwhile, is a legend at Elland Road following his playing days – and then a brief spell in the dugout as manager. He has given Gerrard invaluable experience as his assistant, and he posed alongside Roofe for a photo on the latter’s Instagram.

Rangers still have plenty to play for, having drawn with Slavia Prague in the first leg away from home 1-1. It gives them a slight advantage on away goals going into this week’s second leg, while they will also want to remain unbeaten in the league.

Roofe and MacAllister are not the only Rangers players with Leeds connections – with captain James Tavernier coming through the academy at Thorp Arch. Indeed, Tavernier was surprised with a facetime from Lucas Radebe following the triumph.

Leeds fans have applauded Roofe for helping Rangers in their Scottish Premiership success – and Gerrard posted a comment on Roofe’s Instagram, in response to the ex-Leeds man posing alongside MacAllister.
