Rangers manager, Steven Gerrard, heaped praised on young defender Nathan Patterson and backed him to eventually take over from James Tavernier at Ibrox.
Patterson was given his full debut by Gerrard last night and was solid in the 2-0 win over Lech. It gave Gerrard another welcome addition to a squad that is already full of quality and winners.

Tavernier, who has been exceptional all season, is being linked with a move away from Rangers to the Premier League. And Gerrard, speaking following last night’s win, believes Patterson is well set to take over eventually.
“I think that works both ways. He’s lucky to have Tav here because he’s got no-one better to learn off and be a sponge around,” Gerrard said.
“Tav is at an age where at some point, Nathan will take over that position but it’s great to have two really good right-backs to pick from. I thought his performance was strong considering it was his full debut at this level.”

Patterson, 19, will be looking at Tavernier as Gerrard says. There is no better right-back in Scotland at the moment, meaning the young Scot is at the very best place he can be.
A solid performance, another future Gers star – TBR View
You have to applaud Steven Gerrard’s management here in putting Patterson in during a game which was a bit of a dead rubber.
Gerrard put enough experience around Patterson to ensure a smooth ride and the teenager delivered, with an assured display.
Rangers, then, look to have got another gem on their hands in the form of Patterson.
