Steven Gerrard swoop for 21-goal Rangers fan Lawrence Shankland makes perfect sense

This week has seen plenty of teams linked with the signature of Scottish striker Lawrence Shankland. With Sunderland keen, The likes of Swansea City, Ipswich Town, Hull City and Wigan Athletic all keen. They also name Rangers as a potential location.

Whilst not exactly a definite hint at a move, Rangers should certainly be looking into his potential signature given his exploits this season.

The 23-year-old has been in sensational form for his club Ayr United this season. He has found the net 21 times in just 18 games. He also has four assists in that time.

Of course, this is playing in the Scottish Championship, but Rangers know as well as anyone that the Scottish second-tier is not far off the level in the top-flight. Two years stuck in the division highlight that point.

Steven Gerrard could clearly use striking reinforcements at Ibrox. When Kyle Lafferty and Alfredo Morelos were recently unavailable, they turned to loanee Umar Sadiq. The Nigerian has hardly impressed in Glasgow.

Shankland, who was released by rivals Aberdeen in 2017, would be a more suitable arrival for Rangers.

Then there is the fact he is a Glasgow boy and former Rangers season-ticket holder. He even . That intrinsic passion can do wonders for a player at a hometown club. Gerrard, of course, should know all about that.

Rangers have a chance to swoop for a free-scoring, affordable, Rangers fan in a move that could get one over on Aberdeen in the process. This seems like a no-brainer for Steven Gerrard and co. Shankland should be a priority at Ibrox.
