Steven Gerrard slammed ‘careless’ decision, but could Ross McCrorie be centre-back solution
Rangers have certainly got a gem on their hands in midfield talent Ross McCrorie. The 20-year-old has been in fine form recently and the Ibrox faithful is loving his embattled style of play.
However, does his future lie in a different position?
This summer will see Rangers sign Glen Kamara from Dundee and Greg Docherty is likely to get a chance after he returns from his successful loan spell at Shrewsbury Town.

The midfield is therefore well stocked. However, could McCrorie be the solution to Rangers problems at the back.
Steven Gerrard has previously made his feelings very clear about playing the youngster at centre-back at this early stage of his career.
“We had a player playing at centre-back position that wasn’t his real position, who was 19 years of age and thrown in at the deep end, who could have been destroyed in terms of his career.
“We felt that decision was careless.”
But McCrorie is certainly capable of being a top-class central defender. Rangers signed Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic, Gareth McAuley and Joe Worrall in the summer. But Worrall is only on loan, McAuley is no spring chicken and Katic has failed to convince Gerrard this term.
Rangers clearly need more options at centre-back and McCrorie could easily adapt into the role. With midfield set to be well stocked, it could actually prove the best move from the Glasgow club regarding McCrorie’s future role at Ibrox. It could also save them spending millions on more new centre-backs. Sounds like a win-win situation.
