Steven Gerrard praises Rangers pair after stunning Ibrox defeat

Steven Gerrard has labelled Steven Davis’s performance in Rangers’s defeat on Wednesday night outstanding, while he also reserved praise for Joe Aribo, .

The Gers have fallen 13 points adrift of Celtic after a surprise defeat against Hamilton Academical at Ibrox. The only goal came during the early stages of the second-half, with David Moyo capitalising on a mistake between Connor Goldson and James Tavernier.

It was another hugely disappointing night for the Gers. And you could certainly understand if some of their supporters felt that the title race was now over.

But Gerrard suggested that he was happy with a couple of the performances he saw – though it is clear that he is under no illusions about how bad a night it was.

“The effort was there, the commitment was there but we haven’t taken the chances we created in the game. That’s been the story of it. Hamilton have gone down the other end and scored and maybe could have scored another one,” he said, .

“There were a few good performances out there, believe it or not. I thought Steven Davis was outstanding and Joe Aribo had a right go.”

Davis has largely been an excellent signing for Rangers. He has been a leader since his return to the club, and has rolled back the years with some of his performances.

Aribo meanwhile, appears to be finding his feet following his summer move. There have been glimpses of his quality and frightening potential throughout his spell with the Gers. But perhaps his superb goal against Braga has inspired an upturn in form.

Of course however, that will provide little comfort to the Rangers supporters.
