Steven Gerrard lauds ‘transformed’ Rangers star Greg Docherty

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has showered praise on Greg Docherty following his lively return to the club.

The 22-year-old scooped the Shrews’ Player of the Year award after notching 10 goals in all competitions, and his good form appears to have carried over into pre-season.

The star has been superb for the Light Blues so far and has caught the eye of Gerrard.

He said (): “He has come back a different man.

“He has matured a lot from his experience, going out of his comfort zone, living away from his family, living up to the expectation of being a Rangers player on loan.

“Shrewsbury did a fantastic job with him. From what I’ve seen since day one of pre-season, he looks a different player and a different person. So we are delighted.”

TBR’s view

Docherty is certainly doing his first-team prospects no harm so far in pre-season.

It definitely looks as though the Scot is a better player for his loan move to the League One Shrewsbury.

There will be strong competition for midfield places at Ibrox this season, with Glen Kamara, Steven Davis and Ryan Jack Gerrard’s favoured trio at present.

But Docherty is showing that he has unique attributes to bring to the table.

It would be a surprise, at this point, to see him playing his football elsewhere in 2019/20.
