Steven Gerrard lauds Rangers defender Connor Goldson

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has lavished praised on Connor Goldson, branding the defender ‘outstanding’ in 2020/21 so far.

The 27-year-old has played a key role for the Light Blues this term, being ever-present in a backline that has shipped just four goals in the Premiership after 17 games ,and just 12 in 27 in all competitions including Europa Legaue qualifying.

And Gerrard has been delighted with the contributions of the former Brighton man, waxing lyrical about him in his press conference today.

: “I think Connor Goldson has been outstanding this season, showing incredible leadership alongside James on and off the pitch.

“His passing has been next level and he has been working hard on it. He has put the work in and we are proud of the level he is playing at.”

Gerrard is right to praise Goldson’s distribution – ,  he’s been averaging 67.6 accurate passes per 90 (84%), which includes those riskier long balls.

TBR’s View – New contract surely awaits brilliant Goldson

Gerrard has refused to be drawn on contract situations, but surely Rangers will be looking to make a move on that front with Goldson soon.

At the moment, he’s got a deal at Ibrox until 2022 and ideally, the club won’t want to get to next summer with him only having a year remaining.

Should that be the case, potential suitors from down south could well come sniffing, especially if Goldson has maintained his current level all the way through until the end of the season.
