Rangers midfielder Ross McCrorie has mainly been a fringe player so far this season at Ibrox and completed a full game in just four of his 16 appearances across all competitions.
The 20-year-old came off the bench at half-time for the Gers on Wednesday night in the 0-0 draw away to Hibernian and reminded everyone of his qualities.
He can be a Rolls-Royce central midfielder when he’s on form, with plenty of defensive qualities in breaking up play and also being quick in possession.
Rangers manager Steven Gerrard gave the youngster huge credit with his comments after the league result and believes he made a positive impact.
“Ross needs to just back himself, he’s going to regain loads of balls because he’s an excellent footballer out of possession. He needs to back himself in possession, if he does he finds performances like tonight. He was excellent, it was a stunning performance for him,”
Gerrard’s comments should be a real incentive for McCrorie that he is good enough to break into the Rangers starting XI under him.
The Scotland Under-21 international has shown he can look assured at first-team level and now needs to try consistency in his game.
There is certainly a gap open in the midfield for the academy breakthrough to make a starting position his own and will hope for another opportunity a the weekend when the Light Blues travel to St Johnstone.
