Rangers manager Steven Gerrard hailed defender Nathan Patterson after he made his senior debut on Friday night.
The Gers produced a comfortable performance to beat Scottish League One side Stranraer 2-0 at Ibrox.
Gerrard’s team returned to action after the winter break in the Scottish Cup fourth round tie and now turn their attention to a league fixture with St Mirren on Wednesday.
Scott Arfield opened the scoring against Stranraer on the stroke of half-time, before Jermain Defoe’s penalty in the second-half wrapped up the win and a spot in the next round of the cup competition.
Gerrard decided to give Patterson praise for his performance, as he gave the defender his first-team debut.
“Really pleased with Nathan Patterson I I thought he was very positive, he done everything we’ve asked of him and everything we’ve been working on,”
TBR’s View:
Patterson impressed during his first taste of senior level and he’s a highly-rated talent to come out of the Rangers academy.
The attack-minded right-back slotted into the XI with ease in Friday’s cup fixture and he put in a few dangerous crosses into the box.
His aim should be to try pick up some more competitive minutes during the remainder of the season, but unfortunately for him Rangers’ club captain James Tavernier is the main right-back in the squad and it’s hard to picture him being moved aside anytime soon.
18-year-old Patterson has at least got his foot in the door now though and has given a glimpse into the future.
