Steven Gerrard confirms ‘absolutely outstanding’ player will miss Rangers weekend game
Glasgow Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has confirmed that Ibrox newcomer Leon Balogun won’t feature in their weekend Scottish Premiership game due to injury.
At the end of July, Rangers brought the 32-year-old defender to Ibrox on a one-year contract with a further year’s option after leaving English side Wigan.
Balogun has made three Scottish Premiership appearances to date, playing the full 90 minutes against Aberdeen and St Mirren, both clean-sheet wins.

He then featured for 46 minutes against St Johnstone last time out but sadly had to come off due to a quadricep injury, though once again, Rangers recorded an impressive clean-sheet victory.
With Rangers facing Livingston away this weekend, Gerrard told reporters at his pre-match press conference that Balogun won’t be involved.
“Leon Balogun won’t be available for the weekend, he has a small quad problem and we are waiting on results from a scan,” the Gers boss is quoted by the as saying.
“Filip Helander played great at the weekend and George Edmundson had a great pre-season so I will make a decision at the weekend.”

This is a concerning update regarding Balogun as it’s not just the weekend game that he’ll be missing but an estimated return date is pending the results of this scan.
The Nigeria international has hit the ground running at Ibrox, with Alex Rae deeming him “absolutely outstanding” and “so aggressive” (Rangers TV, via the ).
Hopefully he won’t be out for long, as he’s already staking a big claim for being one of the first names on Gerrard’s clean sheet.
