Steven Gerrard has told his Rangers press conference ahead of Sunday’s Scottish Premiership clash against Aberdeen that the club will enter contract talks with Allan McGregor – and want to keep Leon Balogun, too.
McGregor, 38, continues to prove that age is just a number after a stunning clean sheet against Celtic last weekend. His save to deny Leigh Griffiths is likely to be up there for saves of the season, tipping an effort onto the post.
He has kept 14 clean sheets in his 22 appearances, conceding only 14 goals – a stunning record, but he is out of contract in the summer. Balogun, a Nigeria international, is also set to see his current deal expire in the summer.
The former Wigan defender has impressed since joining the club, alongside Connor Goldson. Gerrard has stated he wants to keep Balogun and will enter contract talks with McGregor to see what the goalkeeper wants to do.

“All contract chat will remain private between players and the club once they get up and running. At the right time, we will sit down with Allan McGregor and see what he wants to do in terms of his own future.
“Leon Balogun is also someone we want to keep hold off,” Gerrard added,
TBR’s view – Keeping both is absolutely crucial
Rangers have a good mix of talent and experience – and both Balogun and McGregor are important parts of the Rangers dynamic off the pitch. On the pitch, they have both been excellent this season.
Even with Balogun going in and out of the team, he has been crucial since joining the club. McGregor’s importance goes without saying – he has got to stay and if he does leave, Rangers will have to spend big on a replacement.
