Steven Gerrard claims Rangers star played angry in 8-0 win

Steven Gerrard has admitted to that Kemar Roofe played with real anger as the Gers ran out 8-0 winners at Ibrox on Sunday.

The Light Blues restored their nine point advantage over their rivals with a stunning win. They scored four goals in each half to put some of their midweek frustration to bed.

You could certainly understand why those involved on Thursday may have felt that they had a point to prove after conceding two late goals, but Gerrard has suggested that another member of his squad looked as though he needed to send a message.

Roofe did not feature against Benfica. But he responded with two goals and an assist against Hamilton on Sunday.

And Gerrard insisted that he had no problem with the forward venting his disappointment if he is going to express it in his performance when he does get an opportunity.

“Kemar Roofe today, he played angry, probably because he never got on the pitch through the week, which I love to see because you see the best Roofe,” . “He’s getting close to being at his best.”

It should be so exciting for Rangers fans that they appear to have so much depth in every position. Up front, Roofe is battling the likes of Alfredo Morelos, Cedric Itten and Jermain Defoe for an opportunity.

The quartet are pushing each other. And that is surely bringing the standards up.

It is a frightening thought to consider that Roofe could get better still. He has already made an outstanding impact with five goals already in all competitions.

But Gerrard is clearly confident that there is even more to come from the summer signing.
