Steven Davis is unsure about his Rangers future, insisting to that he is not keen to think about his own situation after the Gers failed to bring the Europa League trophy back to Ibrox on Wednesday.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men were agonisingly beaten in Sevilla in the final. It had appeared that they may be well on their way towards a historic victory when Joe Aribo gave them the lead early on in the second-half.
However, Eintracht Frankfurt fought back. They levelled the contest shortly after, sending the final to extra-time.
Rangers certainly looked most likely to score in the additional half-hour. Ryan Kent saw one effort brilliantly saved. And Davis himself seemed to be a deflection away from finding the top corner with an amazing strike.
Unfortunately, the lottery of penalties hurt Rangers. Aaron Ramsey was the only player who failed to score. And the Gers were forced to settle for runners-up.
Of course, the loss was probably particularly poignant for Davis, who had played in the final of the same competition back in 2008. It could also prove to be one of his final games for the Gers.
His contract expires in the summer. And there have been periods where he has struggled to force his way into the team.
Davis himself admitted, that he is not yet sure whether he has just made one of his last appearances for the club.
“I don’t really know. I don’t want to think about that tonight. We have a massive game on Saturday as well. But we need to get over the disappointment of this first,” .
Davis unsure about his Rangers future
It would have arguably been the perfect way to sign off if Rangers had won. Davis has proved to be an unbelievable signing for the Light Blues and has been superb in his second spell.
It would be a shame to watch him potentially fall further and further towards the periphery of the squad. He deserved to go out on a high.
Perhaps that will cross his mind if Rangers lift the Scottish Cup this weekend.
