Steven Davis excited by prospect of Jordan Jones at Rangers

that he believes Jordan Jones will be a “good addition” for Rangers when the Kilmarnock winger moves to Ibrox this summer.

The 24-year-old agreed a pre-contract with Rangers in January under the Bosman ruling that will see the five-time Northern Ireland international link up with Steven Gerrard’s side at the end of the season.

His contract at Rugby Park was set to expire this summer and Rangers opted to land him on a free, rather than paying a fee to land him immediately.

Despite having plenty of competition out wide when Jones joins, Davis believes he has seen enough of his Northern Ireland teammate to know that he will prove to be a good bit of business by the Teddy Bears.

“Whenever I’ve seen Jordan play, he’s very direct,” “He wants to take people on, one v one in the final third. He wants to get balls into the box and he has had a really good impact with us [Northern Ireland].

“It can be difficult for a young player to come in, but he made a good impact in the last international break. He showed a good level of consistency. He’s an exciting player, and he will get fans off their seats.

“He’s going to be a good addition.”

TBR’s view

It remains to be seen if Jones will become a regular when he joins in the summer. He faces plenty of competition in the likes of Daniel Candeias, Jamie Murphy, Glenn Middleton and Eros Grezda. Ryan Kent is only on loan.

But if he is to shine under Gerrard, he needs regular first-team football to gather momentum. At Killie, he has been one of the first names on the team sheet under Stevie Clarke.

Certainly, he is an excellent signing on a free transfer and his form for club and country has shown that. But whether he can be a hit, is a different question.
