Steven Bergwijn suggests Tottenham once had an attacker who was even better than Arsenal legend Thierry Henry

Tottenham Hotspur have endured a real struggle in their opening 11 Premier League games this season.

Ange Postecoglou’s side have gone into the final international break of the year sitting in 10th spot of the table.

However, they are only three points off Arsenal after what has been a slow start for most teams in the league.

One game could change a lot for Tottenham with the two defeats against Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town casting a different light on their start to the campaign.

Those inside Tottenham believe Postecoglou’s project needs time but Spurs clearly need some of their experienced players to step up.

And there is one former player who Tottenham could really do with right now who has now been hailed as even better than Thierry Henry.

Steven Bergwijn rates Tottenham legend Gareth Bale higher than Thierry Henry

Speaking to GOAL whilst participating in a social media game, the former Tottenham winger Steven Bergwijn shared his admiration for Gareth Bale.

The Dutch international departed Spurs a number of years ago but he was clearly impressed with what he saw from Bale in their brief time together.

Bergwijn was asked to participate in a winner-stays-on-style game where he had to choose between two players with Bale beating the likes of Mohamed Salah and Wayne Rooney.

However, the real surprise may have come when Bale was selected over Henry by the winger who is currently playing in the Saudi Pro League.

This comes as Didier Drogba recently hailed Henry as different class in a similar style game.

Bergwijn previously hailed Bale as world-class

Bergwijn’s time in north London was far from a success with Bale’s 2020/21 return to Spurs on loan showing his class even at his age.

Bale was not even a regular starter under Jose Mourinho with the Portuguese manager often overlooking the Tottenham legend.

But one person who did not overlook Bale’s talent was Bergwijn with the winger telling just how good the Welshman was back in 2020.

“Everybody knows Gareth is a world-class player so I am very happy he is here and he can help us,” said Bergwijn.

“We have a big squad with a lot of goals in it. It is good that we have a lot of good players – we need that.”
