Steve Bruce helped change Isaac Hayden’s mind at Newcastle

Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden is no longer unsettled, .

In a Q & A session on The Chronicle’s Live Blog [14.02], it was claimed that Hayden is now happy at Newcastle. There are two main reasons for that – and one of them is Steve Bruce!

Hayden wanted to move down south

In the summer, Hayden was strongly linked with a move away from St James’ Park. The former Arsenal midfielder openly admitted that he wanted to move back down south. According to many media outlets, , Hayden was eager to move closer to his daughter – who lives in the south.

But a move failed to materialise and he stayed at Newcastle. Hayden has always been a model professional so Newcastle fans knew this wasn’t an issue. But apparently, he is now happy in Tyneside.

Bruce played a major role in keeping Hayden at the club. Although he is not a popular choice with Newcastle fans, Bruce worked with Hayden at Hull City. This was a major factor convincing Hayden to stay.

He was also convinced by Newcastle’s summer recruitment. With big-name signings like Joelinton and Allan Saint-Maximin, Hayden believes Newcastle are going places. Talks are now underway over a new contract.

TBR’s view

Hayden staying at Newcastle would be a major bonus after fans were resigned to his exit. But he needs to recover from his red card and earn his place back in the Newcastle midfield.

In Hayden’s absence, Newcastle picked up their second league win of the season. It came against Manchester United and debutant Matty Longstaff – replacing Hayden – scored the winner. The competition for places now looks strong in central midfield.
