Steve Bruce comments on Newcastle’s reported target Danny Rose

Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce has described Tottenham defender Danny Rose as a “class act” and the club reportedly want to sign him during the current January transfer window.

have reported that the Magpies have made an enquiry about signing the 29-year-old on loan.

It is understood though that Spurs want the permanent sale of the left-back or a loan with an obligation to buy in the summer.

The report details that Watford have also enquired about the Englishman, while Bournemouth are currently in talks over a potential deal.

Rose has 29 senior caps for England and has proven himself to be top quality in the Premier League, despite falling out of favour at Spurs.

His contract with the North London club expires in the summer and it does look like he’s on his way out of Jose Mourinho’s team.

Bruce didn’t want to get too detailed about transfer speculation regarding Newcastle, but did let slip on Friday morning that he rates reported target Rose extremely highly as he raved about his quality.

“I think you know me by now. It would be wrong for me to sit and talk about other people’s players but, look, he (Rose) is a quality player and a class act. Whether it’s possible, who knows?”

TBR’s View:

Newcastle’s unfortunate luck with injuries means that Matt Ritchie is currently the sole left wing-back option, so bringing in more competition to St James’ Park this month would be ideal.

Rose would be a high-profile addition for the club if they can strike a deal for him and it seems like they are having a decent window.

Nabil Bentaleb has already arrived at the club, but will he be joined by an ex-Spurs teammate in Rose?
