Stephen Elliott warns Sunderland over player who’ll be ‘offered a lot of money’ elsewhere

Sunderland icon Stephen Elliott has warned the Black Cats not to dither over the contracts of Aiden McGeady and Charlie Wyke.

Both players have been in incredible form under Lee Johnson, but they’re only contracted to the Stadium of Light until the end of the season.

McGeady, who was frozen out under the previous Sunderland manager, has four goals and nine assists from 16 games this term.

The latter, meanwhile, has 21 goals and three assists from 32 games in all competitions.

McGeady and Wyke combined in devastating fashion last week when the former provided four assists for the latter to score four goals in the 4-1 win over Doncaster.

The same assist-and-goal combination helped Sunderland take Lincoln to penalties in Wednesday night’s EFL Trophy semi-final at the Stadium of Light.

Elliott took to Twitter during the game and urged the Black Cats to tie the two players down, Wyke in particular.

Sunderland are still awaiting confirmation from the EFL ahead of Kyril Louis-Dreyfus’ takeover but the signs remain positive that an announcement is close, according to the .

The incoming Black Cats majority shareholder has been at the past three Sunderland games.
