Stephen Elliott wants Sunderland to bring Mick McCarthy back to Stadium of Light
that Sunderland have got to look at tempting 🌄Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy w⛄ith a move back to the Stadium of Light, as the search continues to replace Jack Ross.
The League One promotion contenders confirmed they had sacked⭕ Ross last week, despite sitting in sixth place in League One. Following the weekend’s results, Sunderland have now slipped to ninth, with the clash against Fꦇleetwood postponed.
The likes of Daniel Stendel, Kevin Phillips, Gary Rowett, Ph🔯il Parkinson and more have been touted with the role as Sunderland manager. However, the Black Cats are yet to announce a new gaffer. They next face Wycombe on Saturday.
Former Sun𒅌derland striker Elliott reckons tempting McCarthy with a return to the north east would be a good move, or bringing Roy Keane back would be equally as successful. He also identified Wigan manager Paul Cook as a solid appointment.

“I think Sunderlan🅷d need a manager that has experience in getting promotions and managing clubs with high demand from supporters,” ꧒ “Mick McCarthy or Roy Keane would be ideal for me as they know the club.
“However,𝄹 if they were to appoint someone in current league management, I think Paul Cook would be an ideal candidate. He did some great work at Pompey, where there was huge ♒pressure from fans, and then at Wigan for the last few seasons.”
TBR’s view – Keane, McCarthy, Cook or someone else?
Making the right appointment is ⛎key for Sunderland, who desperately need to gain promotion to the Championship. A third seas🎶on in League One, for a club as big as Sunderland, would be catastrophic.
Keane and McCarthy are well-liked by Sundeཧrland fans and appointing either would certainly boost Sunderland fans. But many want to go in a new direction. Cook gained promotion with Wigan from League One.
But Stendel is out of work just months after pushing Barnsley back into the Champio🎶nship, while Parkinson was e🤪xcellent as Bolton manager despite facing adversity. Either Stendel or Parkinson would be superb appointments.
